According to a recent study by the National Association of Realtors®, more buyers now place a high value on easy access to schools, restaurants and stores, parks and even workplaces. Of 3000 residents surveyed, over 70% – including 62% of millennials and 55% of adults born before 1944 – agreed that walkability, closeness to highways, and short commutes were important factors in their choice of a home:
- 76% said sidewalks were appealing
- 69% would like parks within walking distance
- 71% desire convenient public transportation
- 60% would pay more to live in a walkable community
The Main Line community of Wayne is a terrific example of a walkable town, hailed as one of America’s best places to retire, and as one of the “Top 100 Places to Live” according to U.S. News and World Report.
